Morning Light

People sleep peacably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf
~George Orwell~

In the begining God created the heavens and the earth.  The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep.  And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.  Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light.  And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.  God called the light day, and the darkness He called night.  So the evening and the morning were the first day.
Genesis 1: 1-5 NKJV

It has often been said that things that look difficult in the darkness of night will become clearer in the morning.  Whether it is a restful nights sleep that energizes us, or our Lords renewing of our minds, it always seems that some of the most difficult situations which we face seem so much easier come morning.  I tend to believe that this is because of a new perspective which we may have which was not available in the dark of night.  For darkness has forever been viewed by man as being a time of fear and forboding.  With the morning light comes the relief and comfort of a new day.  However, one look at the begining of scriptures tells us that, upon its creation, God called the light and darkness which He had created "Good."  Indeed, if our Lord of all creation would call the darkness He created good, then why is it that we have such fear of the darkness He created?  I believe that it is the darkness which daily surrounds us that brings us insecurity and fear.  For there a element of unknown in the darkness of night.  Shepherds would guard their flocks by night from predators.  People will often bolt their doors and fire up home security systems as darkness falls.  With darkness comes insecurity and fear.  It is no wonder, then, that the worries and cares of the darkness of night would seem much more clearer come morning.  It has also been shown that too much worry and stress is not good for a normal nights sleep.  And so we somehow must take the worries and cares of our day and stuff them aside before we lay our heads to rest for the night.  Or  do we?

Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
1 Peter 5: 6-7 NKJV

Need we fear the darkness of night when we have as our Lord and protector He who created the darkness and, upon its creation, called the darkness good?  For God did not create the dark of night that we might be in fear of it.  No, for God seprated the light from the darkness for a reason.  It is in the dark of night that we are rested from the work and activity of the day and renewed for another.  It is a time of rest, peace and reflection.  Is it no wonder that some of the most serene times of fellowship with our Lord have been that time at night before we sleep, or the early hours of the morning?  It is here where the cares of the day are forgotten as our minds refreshed and renewed.  I believe this is the rest period which God intended for us.

In the begining was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was in the begining with God, and without Him nothing was made that was made.  In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.  And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
John 1: 1-5 NKJV

We also have reference of Christ Jesus being the "Light of men."  And it is His "Light" that shines in the darkness.  If we have that light of Jesus within us, we rest in the comfort that there is no situation ot our in which He is not intimately involved.  For if we have Jesus, we live as Jesus {Galations 2:20}.  All that we experience, we experience as Christ.  Be it morning or in the dark of night, Christ who is within us IS our very strength! {Philippians 4:13}
