Heart Whispers

God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the  prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on High, having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained  a more excellent name than they.
Hebrews 1: 1-4 NKJV

It has been said that Adam and Eve, in the garden, enjoyed a wonderful life of fellowship with our Lord.  It was here, unspoiled as of yet by sin, that Gods creation enjoyed not only His presence, but I believe His conversation as well.  One can only imagine the beauty and serene atmosphere in what could be best described as our Lords garden paradise.  Of course, we all know just what happened when satan, seeing an opportunity, drove a wedge between God and His creation.  Now, I don't believe that there was a seperationfrom God at the fall, but there was definately now something that had come between man and God.  That something was the sin of disobedience.  For after Adam and Eve partook of that which God had commanded them not to, they were now on the outside looking into our Lords paradise {Genesis 3: 23-24}.  So much for communing with God huh?  Not so fast.  For that is the very subject of this episode of my page.  I have talked to quite a many christian who has sworn that he has "Felt" our Lord speak to him.  And so, what does "Feel" like when we hear the spoken whispers of our heavenly father?  I firmly believe that God is able to speak to us even today.  However, it seems that whenever someone claims that they have "Felt" God speaking to them, that their claims are met with skepticism from others.  Is there a certain frequency we need be tuned into in order to hear our Lord speak to us?  I don't believe this is the case.  However, I do  believe that, as in radio transmissions, that often His "Signal" to us can be obstructed by other things.  Like a tall hill that often blocks a radio signal, I believe that situations and events in our lives may demand so much of our attention that we may not hear the whispered word of our Lord.

And when the donkey saw the angel of the LORD, she lay down under Balaam; so Balaam's anger was aroused, and he struck the donkey with his staff.  Then the LORD opened the mouth of the donkey, and said to Balaam, "What have I done to you, that you have struck me these three times?"   And Balaam said to the donkey, "Because you have abused me.  I wish there were a sword in my hand, for now I would kill you!"  So the donkey said to Balaam, "Am I not your donkey on which you have ridden, ever since I became yours, to this day?  Was I ever disposed to do this to you?"  And he said, "No."  Then the LORD opened Balaams eyes, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in his way with His drawn sword in His hand; and he bowed his head and fell flat on his face.  And the angel of the LORD said to him, "Why have you struck your donkey these three times?  Behold, I have come out to stand against you, because your way is perverse before me.  The donkey saw Me and turned aside from Me these three times.  If she had not turned aside from Me, surely I would also have killed you by now, and let her live."
Numbers 22: 27-34 NKJV

Ok, now, tell me just what you'd think of ol' Balaams state of mind if you came across him conversing with his own donkey?  This aint' no Mister Ed episode, for Balaam is pretty involved in his conversation with the donkey, even threatening to kill her for displeasing him!  Does this sound like a sane man?  Even before the angel of the LORD introduces Himself, there's Balaam berating the donkey for her antics!  Obviously, Balaam was used to talking donkeys?  Something to ponder in our discussion.  So, is it possible for us today to have a face to face conversation with God?  Well, I don't believe it is a "normal" conversation as we would call one, but more of a conversation within.  There are moments, when we are not bothered nor distracted with our everyday life and activities where we will indeed hear our Lords whispered voice.  It is in moments such as these, when our minds are clear and our hearts are ready that our Lord once again talks with His children.  I don't believe that our Lords reach is that short that He is not able to reach out and whisper His very words to us even today.  Yet, I do believe that we do need to be in a place where we can listen to Him.  Free of distraction and worry, it is here where we will hear the heart whispers of our Lord.
