Mistaken Identity

Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?  For you were  bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your  body and in your spirit, which are God's.
1 Corinthians 6: 19-20 NKJV

Every now and then I'll read a  story of how someone, upon the discovery of new evidence, is found not guilty of a crime they never comitted.  Having protested their guilt, they are at last vindicated in the discovery of new DNA evidence. The use of  DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) in criminal cases as well as paternity reasons has only been around since the late 1970's, but we've certainly made much progress in understanding its secrets.  DNA is  interesting in that it contains almost our entire growth, development, functioning and reproductive information.  For everything that we ultimately are from the color of our hair to the traits which we pass down is ultimately determined by our own genetic DNA code, it is who we are.  Or is it?  Yes, physically our makeup is determined by our genetic code, but does our DNA truly determine just who we are?  Without getting too philosophical, I'll suggest that it is  not our physical DNA which ultimately determines the cretion that we are.  Ultimately, our DNA did not create us, it is only the messenger of the traits we possess.  When we talk of creation, we talk of something completely different.

"But from the begining of the creation, God 'made them male and female.'  'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh.  "Therefore what God has joined together, let not man seperate."
Mark 10: 6-9 NKJV

And what of creation?  Where did we come from?  Was it indeed from the union of our own parents?  I feel that the story goes deeper than that.  Yes, we were created by the physical interaction between two people, as Cain and Abel were to Adam and Eve at the dawn of creation.  We can also trace our DNA back to these earliest ancestors.  And from where did Adam and Eve come from?  The scriptures tell us that our ancestors were divinely created.  That is, the creation of Adam and Eve was ultimately done by God.  In Mark 10, Jesus eludes to this  as the Jewish authorities question him regarding  marriage.  As Jesus tells us, "From the begining of the creation, God made them male and female."  So, here comes that divine connection.  If we can trace our own DNA to our earliest ancestors, and our earliest ancestors were indeed created by our heavenly Father, where does that leave us today?  While I hear the crickets chirping in the background, I'll try to point out what is abundantly clear.  Not only were our ancestors created by God, but we ultimately share in their genetic code, in their DNA.  From the very begininng, we shared a holy inheritance.
